ASK A PLUMBER IN BERGENFIELD: SHOULD WATER LEAKS CONCERN ME?
Water leaks are an inevitability with any plumbing system. Sooner or later, some fitting corrodes or some pipe loses integrity, turning into a drip (or a flow) in the last place you need it to be. If you’re a plumber in Bergenfield, you’ve seen your share of leaks, particularly during the winter when water freezes in the pipes and causes them to burst. The question remains: “should water leaks concern me?” The answer is “always,” even in circumstances where they don’t appear to cause much damage.
For starters, water leaks don’t simply go away on their own. The more time passes, the worse they become, and the more damage they can cause. Putting a bucket under the leak is a stopgap measure at best; without professional repairs, the situation won’t improve. Furthermore, leaks tend to cost you in higher water bills. Even if it’s just a dripping faucet, those little drips can add up to hundreds of gallons over the course of a year: enough to make you feel it when your monthly bills arrive.
Perhaps most importantly, pooling water proves to be more than just a mild annoyance. If left unattended it can ruin surrounding components in your house, from dry wall to wood fixtures, turning what should be a simple repair into a major restoration very quickly. This is of especial concern if the leak takes place in the walls or somewhere out of sight. You may not be aware of the damage until it’s far too late to prevent it, and your little leak has caused a great deal of trouble.
The good news about leaks is that they’re often fairly easy for a professional to repair. Replacing the leaky component doesn’t take an excessive amount of time and while some leaks require more extensive repairs, you can often save yourself a great deal of trouble and expense by starting the operation early. If you’re wondering “should water leaks concern me?” it’s probably time to call a plumber. In Bergenfield, the experts at BZ Dependable are standing by to help. Call us today and let us put those pesky leaks behind you.

In Westwood, NJ, heating repair can become a high priority very quickly. Our cold New Jersey winters are no fun without a safe, efficient heater keeping your home nice and warm. In many, cases, however, the cause of the problem starts well before you have to call in the service specialist. Regular, routine maintenance prevents heating repair, saving you money while keeping your heating sytem operating at peak efficiency when the snows start to fall. Here’s how.
In the first case, dirt and debris can build up over time in your system. If it isn’t cleaned out, that build-up can affect the performance of the heater. It must work harder to properly warm your home, putting greater strain on individual components. That results in higher heating costs every month and increases the risk of a larger breakdown in the near future. The same principle applies to parts in general: anything that suffers a little wear and tear will reduce the unit’s efficiency, which can cascade into larger repair bills if it isn’t addressed.
When it comes to certain components, wear and tear brings on a greater sense of urgency. Take the pilot light, for instance. If it isn’t getting fuel in the precise mixture, it could affect the entire heating system, and may even deprive the unit of its ability to deliver heat altogether. Similarly, the pipes carrying the fuel could suffer from cracks or leak, which need to be addressed before the heater can be operated safely. Both issues involve the possibility of gas leaks, which require a professional heating specialist to address safely and properly.
Regardless of the exact issue, a proper maintenance schedule can help you spot it before it gets out of hand. A service specialist can then make corrections when repairs are comparatively inexpensive, instead of waiting for the problem to grow. If you suspect that your heating system is in need of a little upkeep, or just want to prevent heating repair bills from getting too high, then contact the servicemen at BZ Dependable. We handle HVAC issues of all sorts in Westwood; heating repair is par for the course for us. Call us today and let us show you what a difference the professional touch will make.

Drain vent problems are fairly common, but you have to know what to look for before you call in a plumber. Learning to spot the signs of a drain vent problem can give you a leg up on getting it fixed quickly.

Tenafly, NJ features homes both new and old, and each home has its own unique plumbing situation. A 100-year-old townhome has different plumbing needs than a 21st century condo. Regardless of the pipes, however, one thing is certain: the water should be flowing one way only. | Comments Off on TENAFLY PLUMBING TIP: DEALING WITH AN OVERFLOW
On the first Monday of every September, we celebrate Labor Day in honor of workers everywhere who strive to make our local community and country great. We enjoy the holiday like any other business as a time for BBQ, hanging out with friends and family, and celebrating the end of summer. It also means the start of the NFL and college football seasons.
The origins of Labor Day are disputed, as is the case with many other holidays. Some cite Matthew Maguire, the machinist and secretary of the Central Labor Union of New York, while others cite Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor. Whomever the original founder, by 1894, the holiday had become widely recognized and was designated a federal holiday by Congress and President Grover Cleveland immediately following the Pullman Strike. This strike pitted US Marshals and US Military against employees of Pullman Palace Car Company outside Chicago, as workers sought to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives. At the time, the holiday was a way of repairing ties with workers and recognizing the importance of their contributions.
Today, we see Labor Day as an opportunity to recognize all the people who work hard to contribute to our county. Thank you, and Happy Labor Day from all of us!
