3 WAYS TO DETECT PROBLEMS WITH YOUR PLUMBING

Your plumbing system is one of the most important parts of your home: providing clean, safe water for drinking, cooking and cleaning. When problems arise, you need to get them treated right away. But not every plumbing problem announces itself as obviously as you’d like. With the toilet backs up or the sink won’t turn on, it’s easy enough to summon a plumber. But problems such as pinhole leaks can act behind the scenes, where you aren’t aware of them, and by the time you notice them, they’ve cost you quite a bit of money in damages. Here in Bergen County NJ, there are qualified plumbing services than can handle any issue, but you need to know there’s a problem before you can contact them. Here’s 3 ways to detect problems with your plumbing.

1)    CHECK THE METER

This is a handy trick to detect leaks in your plumbing that you might not otherwise be able to spot. Make sure all of the water is turned off in your home, then check the meter. In many cases, you can see a low-flow indicator. If it’s still running, you likely have a leak. If your meter doesn’t have a low-flow indicator, then note the level, keep the water off in your home and check again in 30 minutes. If the meter has gone up, you’re likely looking at a leak.

2)    LOOK FOR DAMP SPOTS OR MOLD GROWTH

Leaks and drips can take place in the crawlspace of your walls, going on for months before you can spot them. Look for damp spots in areas which shouldn’t have any water, or the growth of mold in supposedly dry parts of your house.

3)    WATCH THAT TOILET

A toilet which continuously runs may indicate something wrong with its inner workings. But if the toilet doesn’t display any problems and still runs more than it should, you may be looking at a problem.
